PLS READ!!! Woman jailed 15 month for importing live shrimps
Some news for everyone here to read....
A woman has been jailed for illegally importing crustaceans into Australia. Chin-Han Chen, 28, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane District Court on Friday to two counts of illegal importation of animals. The court was told that on two occasions she arranged for a contact in Taiwan to send her two shipments of live Crystal Red Shrimp. The shrimp are readily available for purchase in Australian aquarium shops but quarantine laws forbid them from being imported into the country. The shrimp can sell for up to $1000 each to collectors. The court was not told how many were in the packages brought into Australia by Chen in mid-2008. Chen was caught when she tried to sell them to undercover quarantine inspectors. She was sentenced to 15 months' jail. Judge Michael Shanahan ordered she be released on a good behaviour bond after serving three months behind bars. http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/latest/...orting-shrimp/ |

I,myself feel that a sentence of 15 months by the judge is kinda harsh...
Just a hobbyist pet...not any endangered species...or illegal things... |

So so serious. But I can see why people take the risk as the market there is lucrative.
