Buffering PH/KH for shrimp tanks
Need some advice from you pros in shrimp keeping. Question. How to stabalize PH in a CO2 planted tank. Keeping Golden CRS in a 30 liter planted tank with timer that powers a electronic solenoid pumping CO2 2hrs(7am-9am) and 7hrs (5pm to 12pm) when the lights(40watts) come on. Did a PH test and found out that the PH goes to 6.4 when the CO2 is on and 7.2 to 7.6 when CO2 is off gradually. KH is bout 1-2. Does this stress the shrimp? How can i stabilize the PH ? Will coral chips increase KH? Will it increase more KH than PH? How much chips should i put in my tank or is there an alternative? Lets say 5-10 coral chips? |

i was faced with this problem and was advice to add coral chips... i added a handful into my 2ft tank.. there wasnt much changes.. GH did increase as well.. so.... i gonna say again.. LOL.. i used ICE MOUNTAIN water to do WC, the condition changed.. HAHAHA.. me n my ice mountain...
i know u guys may say it contain chlorine as most mineral water does... of coz, i didnt do a regular 10-15% WC, i merely split it into 2 WC of maybe 6% twice a wk, this way i wont hurt my bio system... |

Coral Chips take some time to buffer up the pH....
I bought 4 packet of coral chips to add into my 4 feet...and it took me 8 days to buffer from pH 5.5 to pH 6.5.... |

Co2
Bros, cmm and newlife, u bros use CO2? Heard that ada soil or gex soil lowers the KH and GH of your water. That's why the KH is always 1 - 2 etc.
Wow cmm, your shrimp good life, live in partial mineral water mix tap water Lol. What about distilled water, think its neutral ph also? I started putting one coral chi, bout 5cm long. Will measure the grams later. I noticed a change in 0.4 Ph and my PH fluctuates lesser now from 6.4 to 7.6 to 6.8 to 7.2. Will post some complete findings after 3 days. |
