setting up a crab tank
Hey bros, i want to set up a crab tank sometime this year so i thought i should gather some information first.I am planning to keep vampire crabs and apple crabs.Firstly, i must know if these two species can be kept together. My tank will be 1 about 2ft maybe 1.5ft not sure the size but quite big.I was also wondering, for the substrate can i use normal garden soil or is ADA soil/ black quartz sand better? I'm stuck between these decisions and i hope bros can help please .Oh and i have seen videos on youtube, their whole flooring looks very wet. How are they doing that? Must i fill water to the exact level of the substrate??

I'm not sure if different species of crabs can be kept together, but if you have a big enough enough tank with plenty of hiding places for them, you can try.
I think vampire crabs don't burrow under the soil but apple crabs do, so I don't really know which substrate suits them better. Alternatively you can have 2 smaller tanks housing the 2 different crabs? Fill up your tank with soil/sand and leave a space for the water area about 1/3 of the total area. Make a slope leading to the water area and slowly add water. Your soil will be quite wet when your water area is full. You can also use pieces of driftwood or pebbles/rocks to act as the slope and to hold the soil in place. Hope that helps |

Rainbow crabs can get quite big. So far I only see vampire crabs and red apple crabs around in LFS.
Btw, if you want more variety, I've seen LFS keep rainbow crabs and crayfish(those common ones) in the same tank. You can try that if your tank is big enough and let us know the result |
