Default Giant Cherries

Did you guys notice, sakuras and/or fire reds are getting bigger in size?
Some as big as twice of normal cherries .
I just bought one pack of 5 sakura, 2 of them are twice bigger then the rest.
And, the smaller ones are adult too.
Normal ones are about 2cm, the giants are about 3~3.5cm.

Giant sakuras anyone?

I notice that too. But I was hesistant when buying big one afraid they might have already aged or reached their prime thus will not last.

i have one fire red, its a little longer (like <0.5cm) then normal, but its very bulky. Like human on steroids. think of it as a rhinoceros compared to horse.

i have one theory... Just my opinion.

in order to bring out the redness in cherries, breeder choose and mix only the best coloration thus, off spring will have high chance of redness. So, after a few generations, sakuras and fire red forms. Due to this selection and, in a way, "unnatural" breeding, some how genes that makes shrimps size bigger comes along with genes that brings redness in color. Therefore, as redness intensify, so does the sizes.

hard to say, i maybe just right.

May be their offspring won't be so big in future. It depends on the growing condition in the tank. I think female one tends to look bigger and fatter (usually come with eggs) specially picked for sale. I saw a bag of fire reds with lots of huge female inside and many shrimplets swimming around - seems quite worth the buy with so many small "freebies".

Bro, those "freebies" you mentioned may not even survive when your acclimatising it to your main tank. As they are used to the water parameters in the plastic bag.
