Default Help My CRS Tank Please Part III

yes yes yes its me again...

these are the problems i encounter after weeks of CRS keeping
1. slightly higher ph, 7.2
2. hair algae
3. oily surface
4. a few pest like snails and worms

i am planning to redo my tank but not sure if my solution will rectify those issue
1. used to use 4kg of gex shrimp and plant soil - use 8kg of new gex shrimp and plant soil, or ada amazonia II or any other soil that can bring ph down to 6.5

2. how to prevent hair algae? does removing carpet HC, keep only java moss helps?

3. problem solved as i DIY a surface skimmer

4. boil the DW to kill all pest, but how can kill all the pest in java moss?
does soaking it in tap water kill all of them? will this damage the moss?

and lastly what is the best way to temp locate my shrimps?
it will take at least 2 weeks for the tank to cycle.
i have grade A to SS and some snow white

thanks

wow, part II now.... hope this is last part for you.

Amzonia II has ammonia and will take a long time to cycle, instead, you have to choose certain shrimp soil that has 0 ammonia and use startup bacteria. This will shortened the cycle time to 1 day, at times, I that in case of emergency. But has to take note, some soil does not work and not all soil are the same.

1. you can use back your soil if its not very sandy if it is you can top up new layer above it. Gex soil can bring down ph.

2.Its hard as its strive in the same conditions as normal plants. I do manually removal and reduce it slowly. Remove the infected part and slowly it will go off

4. pest as in ?

Best way is to house your shrimps in your fren's house as its safer this way.
If you have another tank with chiller and same water parameter it will be good to house them there. Lastly pour your existing water in a pail and use air pump to pump the water. Keep it some where cold . For this last method 2 weeks might be abit too long

based on your experience, which soil, ready available in SG LFS, is best for CRS?

To solve the oil on the surface, U can by adding air pump and air stone system to the tank..
Look like u love to all many kind of soil.. just use one type. will do...

bro. relax. you are over doing things.

To get rid of hair algae just use an army of malayan shrimps. It worked for me. i do not believe in using any chemicals or fertalizers.

1) if you use 8kg of soil in your tank which if i remember correctly, is a 2 feet, you are going to have a damned thick sandbed.

My take on GEX is that its not bad. but the problem is, you have to leave it alone for the ph to stablize.

as for no. 4

Your snails and worms can be easily killed by boiling the driftwood.

As for the moss, isolate it in tap water for 1 week. whatevers in there will probably starve to death.

And throw in a mini puffer to finish off all the snails.

If this is all too much work, ditch the moss, boil the driftwood and get new moss.

BTW, you are growing HC without Co2?

be careful about dosing seachem excel into a crs tank. some say it is ok to half dose, many dun dare to do it (including me)

dun think malayan shrimps will harass your crs, but maybe for food they will snatch. you may need to starve them for them to eat your hair algae.
