Unhappy need some help~ [driftwood from the beach]

Hi bro and sis, got 1 reallly cool driftwood from the beach recently but was wondering what i should do with it? am i suppose to just quarantine it or do i need to apply some chemical to prevent it from corroding? if i do will it cause any harmful effect to shrimps or plants or anythin? Thanks in advance!!

You probably need to quarantine it for up to a week and find out how does it affect the water parameters. I dont think chemicals is advisable as shrimps are really senstive to chems even in minute amounts.


And you mentioned from the beach.. are u keeping saltwater shrimps?

nope. i will be keeping fresh water shrimp. is it advisable not to use it in freshwater even after I quarantine it? thanks

from wad i noe or from my experience is tt u need to boil ur DW for a few days or a week

boil? as in with temperature of above 70 all the way for a week?

You need to boil n soak n keep changing water.. cause the wood might have absorbed alot sea water or contamination which can b very harmful to ur freshwater shrimps

their long long time is about 6 months to remove any toxins in the driftwood.

If you boil it, use a pot tt u will NEVER use again. boil at boiling point. (thats wats boiling means mah...) boiling is when u see bubbles in the pot.

The water should turn either salty or usually brown.

I think its safer to buy from shop. =)
