Default Regarding Ph

Okay i recently just got myself a HANNA pH pen. I did the calibration and used it afew times on my shrimp tank.

How do you guys use it? dip it for like 10-15 seconds or 1-2 mins?

The reason i ask about this is because i got 2 totally different readings from the 2 timings.

10-15 secs = 6.8
1-2 mins = 7.4

abit too drastic which concerns my new batch of CRS.

anyone can clarify? which is the accurate readings. Than i can go buy a solution to bring down the pH.

Follow instructions on the packaging. That shd give you the proper reading. If you are on soil base, your pH shd be lower. I am using quartz thus there's no pH altering factor like soil. That's why I am using Proper pH6.5

I have been using the similar pH pen as well.. What I did was to calibrate the pH pen with a 7.0 buffer everytime before i use it , then dip into the water and take the reading after the reading stabilises.. The result will be more accurate and constant..

The longer u soak the pH in the cal liquid, you will get a more stable reading. But those cal liquid are made to produce fast response to your pH pen.

Yes i did use the 7.0 buffer i got from my LFS. I will first check if its 7.0, than i use it to test my tanks. Usually i leave it in my tank for like 10-15 sec, this probably the amount of time for the ph value to be fixed. After using. i pour away the 7.0 buffer in the pH pen's cap and put in new clean 7.0 buffer.

But there was once i forgot to remove my pH pen and the value it shows shocked me. lol. Thats why i created this thread to ask how does it work.

So the 10-15 seconds results are the accurate ones? Sorry for the noob questions.

Reading gotten at longer time is more accurate... but why a PH pen take so long to stablise especially in Cal liquid? That could means the electrode is aged.

when its in the cal liquid. it goes to 7.0 really quick. like 10 secs. but if i leave it in my shrimp tank, for 10-15 sec the value would be like 6.7-6.8 which is suitable for CRS. but i left it for about 2 mins. the value becomes 7.3-7.4. so.. im abit worried for my CRS. they seem to be okay le. but im still paranoid. =\
