red lobster/crayfish
I just bought 2 red lobster or is it a crayfish, not sure... from clementi. So I need some information on keeping them.
I just need some basic information on how to keep them. Currently I keep them in a 2 feet tank. 1) Do i put in a lot of water or a little bit? 2) What do I feed them? 3) Do I need a cover for the tank to prevent escape? |

1. It will be favourable to have a tank with water filled normally as of a fish tank and provide aeration for better air exchange, in order for the tank to have enough dissolved oxygen. Alternatively if you do want to provide aeration, ensure that the water does not cover the crayfish completely, so that they will not drown in it, although this is generally not an advisable setup in contrast to the former solution. 2. They eat close to anything you offer them, such as sinking pellets, bloodworms, etc. In particular, Hikari has a Crab Cuisine sinking pellet product which is calcium enriched and is especially suitable for crusteceans like the crayfishes. Hikari Lionhead sinking pellet is another more economical option, and can be used to complement the Crab Cuisine. 3. YES, you do, it is in CAPS for the right purpose. They are expert climbers and will escape given any opportunity. Depending on your luck, you might or might not find them again after they escaped, alive or dead. For more information, do refer to our resident Lobster/Crayfish thread and the past archive threads. Have fun cray keeping! |

The cray you have seen is not exactly black, but actually having a very dark green base with orange highlights. Unfortunately, that specimen was deceased quite a long time ago and was procured from C328 if I didn't remember incorrectly. |
