baby platies!
hi i need help here urgently!! i just purchased 2 platies from the local LFS today and when i got home i realised that there are baby fries in the bag!! one of the platies just gave birth when im on my way home!
unfortunately not all survived... 9 died and im left with 8 baby play fries so my doubts are.. how do i rear those baby fries?? and what neccesary equipments are required? not sure if correct but here's what i did. i filled a tank with all the water from the bag, den i added new water conditioned with PRIME. den i add ocean-free black water. currently the filter used is just a bio-mechanical filter. how do i ensure that the baby fries grow up into healthy fish? u need to house the babies sepertely from the parents... all live bearers will eat their babies after they r born... as for feeding of fries u can try bbs or powdered food for baby fishes..

ahha it's quite easy to rear platies....i'll put my personal observations in simple terms so pls forgive my lousy english...
find a boy, put into a separate tank with 3 girls. make sure the 3 girls stomach is big, but not due to eating. to differentiate boy from girl, see the fin near the anal. if it's usually open, it's zha boh. when they acclimatise to the environment the boy sure whack the girls like siao. wait another few more days u should see baby platies. for me i didnt remove the parents coz in planted tank. then i realise the parents destroying my decor so i remove. the babies survived eating leaves as i nv fed them anything at all. now still about 1.5cm only... hmm more info here. |

For these chaps, house them seperately and you can just crush flakes or pellets into powder and throw it in for them. They will know how to eat them.
That will save you some trouble. These fishes just breed like crazy. So in the main tank where the adult platies are, just place some plants in. In case they give birth again and you don't know about it, the frys will have some cover. |

Baby platies also found in my community tank, but mostly eaten by Zebra Danios that out swim them.

I only have 5 they are still small but hardy.
will wait for at least 4 months for them to grow into adults. |
