need some advice
firstly - is 8mm glass thick tank suitable for marine
secondly - here's my plan for filteration system... advice please - internal overflow box at back left of tank - drill hole at the side of the tank beside the overflow box area, - water be then be mechanically filtered after passing through the internal overflow box.water will rush out of the at the side which leads to a side sump with protein skimmer - after water is skimmed, it will pass through the refugium which is beside the skimmer, the refugium will also be a over flow box which water will overflow back to the main tank this is the whole process.... thinking of a side sump assisted by pumpheads cause i placing my tank on top of a shoe cabinet full of shoes.. no space for sump in the cabinet..... any advice or suggestions to help me out..... new ideas also can.... |

firstly, you got to tell us what size tank you plan to keep, cos even a 10mm may not be enough for a 4 feet.
if you wan to place a sump beside the tank, the sump will have to be shorter and try to use an overflow box instead. In future when you have a cabinet for it, it still works. |

Do you know how much a fully stocked marine tank weighs?
for my 3ft tank, 3x.1.5x1.5ft: sand 40kg rocks 60kg salt 4kg water 152kg are you sure your shoe cabinet can take the pressure of 200+kg? even if you are going for a 2ft, its going to be 100kg+ |

5mm is definitely risky for a 3x1.5 setup due to the increased pressure a typical marine tank setup places on the glass as compared to a freshwater setup. Go for 8mm minimum(If really kiasu, 10mm), you won't want to worry about it leaking in the middle of the night everyday.
