For me the concern is that canister and HOF may suck up shrimplets. Anyway, i may consider removing the filter soon. For all my other tanks i dont use filter.

Thanks for the reply. Was thinking of keeping some shrimps, but couldn't decide on fire reds or sulawesi shrimps. I like the cardinals alot, but after reading quite a few forum and blog postings on their care, seems I might not be so well-prepared to handle them. So I was just asking general questions to learn more. They can do without filtration? So the Nitrate build-up will be removed solely through water changes, since I notice most sulawesi setups do not contain plants. Do you also use a TDS meter?

No i dont use a TDS meter.
For my other shrimps i have never used a filter, just dump lots of hornowrt inside (they are very good nitrate absorbers) and they are alright.

For these sulawesis i put a sponge filter first as a precaution, since they are quite hard to keep.

Haha, sooner or later you will succumb to the urge

Yesterday i introduced the sulawesis to their new tank, and sadly, today one goldflake shrimp died

So this means that one shrimp from each species has died except for the supposedly delicate lone harlequin which is still alive and well.

Things are looking good, no more deaths

Here's a pic of the elusive harlequin

Haiz, quite a lot of deaths since i last updated. Keeping my fingers crossed that no more die. My temp is about 28 deg, subtrate is lapis sand. My tank has coral chips, corals and sea shells to increase pH. Before i got the coral chips, pH was about 7.5, guess it was too low hence resulting in the deaths. Hopefully the pH will increase now. I haven't measured other parameters.

The coral chips seem to work, much better than a coral and some sea shells. There have been no more deaths for the past week. The final count is 4 cardinals, 4 blue leg posos, 2 goldflakes.
