PH up/down VS ph 7.0/7.2 solution
Greetings all shifuz.. Junior is here to ask some question.
May i know which is better? Manually controlling the ph with PH up/down. Or Using PH NEUTRAL/PH 7.0 solution? I had seen them in lfs but always wonder which is better for shrimps... I also want to find out, by add beneficial bacteria, will it help to stablize the water parameter in term of ph? |

The safer and efficient way of controlling the pH would be utilizing the correct substrate. For acidic water, i.e. low pH, there're a wide range of soils such as ADA, Gex etc that do that. For alkaline water better suited for Sulawesi invertebrates, I have used Project Soil 7.2 before that adjusts the pH to a higher range. If even higher or lower pH is needed to be attained, natural means such as adding ketapang leaves or CC can be used.

After a few disaster mistakes and learning from the pros here. I would say neither to the above 2 ways. It is best not to use any solutions to keep the pH in check IMHO. Had been using the pH up to maintain my water(without finding out the causes of the drop) cos my water pH seems to be decreasing, its fine if you have the time, but if you are busy for this 1 or 2 days like wat had happen to me, the pH lvl will fluctuate and causes stress to the faunas. Also, most solutions that keep a constant pH lvl actually is not good if you hve plants in them. Personally, i find that rocks/stones like lava rocks, coral chips etc helps to keep the pH lvl one required. find these to be the more natural ways. Most imptly, these rocks/stones etc can be added to the aged water and thus during WC, the difference btw the pH value will be very minimal. Oso, it helps in patching the whole in my pockets. The BB don't help to stablize ph. Mostly we use the soil to buffer the ph if you use a neutral soil it should buffer at 7 seeing what the market have sold. If you use soil meant more for shrimp than it should buffer at 6.5 or so some bros here however do obtain much lower range of ph. Using of solution will not buffer it. It like a 1 time adjustment once you do a W/C you need to use it again. Long term using no one know what is the effect on your lifestock. If u need to bring down the ph however there are 2 product you might want to consider trying as below.
1) Sera super peats moss. (cheaper but u need to adjust it yourself) 2) benibachi fluval (slightly for deeper pocket) I've use both product and still using to adjust my ph to 6.2 This are more natural product as compare to solution and it will last for sometimes mths to be exact depending on your W/C frequency. |

i dont recommend the use of liquid BB solution to speed up the cycling rate. I have bad experience wif it, instead of speeding up, it tends to foul the water very quickly after a few days. And the BB solution i'm using was Bactermax from CRS haven. i still suggest the tradition way of cycling using food remains or feeder fish..
