Happened to my 2 ramhorn I bought from LFS some months back. Also found their empty shells 3 days later. But then I start seeing small tiny ramhorm snails babies start appearing in my tank after afew weeks.

sounds like some sacrificial act by the adults to give life to their off springs?

anyway, with regards to your original problem. it sounds really strange. maybe you were sold some bad pieces in the first place, i.e. infected. Either that, or your snails may have starved over the weekend. snails are grazers so they need to constantly eat. If your tank is too clean, they MAY starve. However, that scenario is extremely unlikely. |

I think they ate the snails. THis would be especially likely if you found the 3 snail with shells only, and no body. I'm pretty sure yamato eat snails. Its a known phenomenon- especially for big, starving shrimp. Sometimes, if the diet of the shrimps that you keep is too low in protein, shrimps will be predators and eat either each other or snails. They eat the snail by flipping it over and feasting on the inside. Also, snails are easier to catch than other shrimp, since they are so slow..... |
