Question how to treat driftwood before introducing them into the tank

Hi there, need some advice on treating pieces of driftwood before they are safe to be placed into the shrimp tank.
have been told that boiling it helps... or simply submerging them in hot water?
what is the ideal method?
thanks!

What I will normally do is to pour boiling water on all surfaces of the wood. Leave it on a pail of de-chlorinated water, change water for a few days (~ 3 days) then I will tied it with mosses ready to be placed into the tank. Boiling it, I feel that it is very troublesome.

I also did the same, just soak in boiling water a few times. Always can't find a big enough pot to boil them in, so that't the best i can do. Seems to be good enough so far.

For me, I would put in hot water in pail, wait for 2-3 days then change water and continue soaking for a month to remove some yellow substances coming out from the wood.

Depends on what you're keeping. Some fish appreciate the tanins that leach from driftwood. I keep all my plec's in tanin water and they thrive.

hi bro, looks like u r refering to parasite when u say 'safe'.
for me, i only wash it with tap water, and brush it when required.
so far so good, as all the drift woods i got were dried for many days or even months, and i think they(parasite) should be dead without water for a long period of time.

We talking about shrimps haha... but the right way is what magpie has done. boiling helps to kill germs or mold or other harmful substances in the wood if i am not wrong.
