Default Issue with my soil (New tank for CRS)

Dear all,

I have started a CRS 2 feet tank last weekend in my office. Used the GEX soil, green and red packaging.

for my hang over filter, I brought over ceramic rings from my home's cannister filter (approx 2 years old).

I then dosed some 'Angel Super Bact'. maybe overdosed perhaps.

2-3 days later, a form of white slimy substance has taken presence in my tank - on the gravel, on my wood, on aquarium glass. its very easy to clear off. gently scraping of the glass will remove it. gentle sweeping of the soil will remove it.

Any idea what this is and how do you get rid of this? algae? Read from other forums that is an over-bloom of beneficial bacteria. is this true? the article also mentioned that it time, it will starve off and clear by itself.

Any comments on this is appreciated.

It could be that - I personally recalled I had some problem with it. If your tank has no livestock in it, its easy to get rid of this bacter but simply water cycling with untreated (i.e., chlorine contaminated) water. Then re-do the BB adding.

Otherwise - good luck.
