1 question Fishy bro u are not using any liquid calcium are u?

To Correct Ning.
Mine wasnt a GH problem, mine was more of a calcium problem to be exact.
High Gh shouldnt be much of a problem for CRS but if it contains alot of calcium, it will make it hard to molt causing death like what silane bro told me.
Monitored the situation today. Everything is looking good. I am not dosing any calcium. Not sure how to use it. More over, I think calcium will cuase them to have molting problems. GH determines the amount of calcium in the water?

correct.

For mine why i said the GH was a problem because i also experienced what Wjustin had once.

My ph was 7.2

I didnt read the instruction properly...

I added 12ml of mineral plus for 60 liters of water after 20% WC.

My GH was about 6-7.

My sakura died.

i wasnt added calcium. so... yea..=) maybe they are right.. old age bah..

hi,

i just did a GH test on my CRS tank. The GH was about 8. I did a wc about 10% and did a re-test. GH is now about 7. I will do another wc on monday. try to lower it. Does mosura mineral plus lower or increase GH? Cause it is stated on the bottle that it will alter but it does not state if it will increase or lower.
CRS Tank
PH 6.5
KH 4
GH 7
Temp 22

I just did another test on my fire red sakura planted tank. I was shocked to find out that the GH was 18. I did a wc. retest resultss were at 11. No fatalities. I think all the dosing of liquid fert contributed to the GH increase.

Sakura
PH 6.5
GH 11
Temp 22

i'm using mineral Plus too quite a good effect i noticed is
that once you dose my shrimp will mostly start to molt
and you can see the molted shell the next few hours or next day
Agree with you bro, now I only use Mosura Mineral Plus and no liquid calcium from other brand. My shrimps are healthy and they are breeding. Mineral Plus is cheaper and the effort is better and gentle to shrimps, I trust Mosura Band.

True.

Mosura can be trusted.. but sometimes, too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing. =P

Mosrua Mineral plus increases not decrease GH btw fishy.

as for the GH guidlines, i read it in the sticky by silane:

1. What is the water parameter required by CRS?
CRS can adapt to and survive in wide range of pH. The optimal pH range is around 6.3 to 6.8 to show the color well. GH is best keep at around 3 to 6 dH. Nitrite(NO3) best kept within 25ppm.

Ph high and GH high is a recipe for disaster.

An example. on the instructions of mosura mineral plus

amounts to use
For tank water ph 6.3 or lower, use 1.5ml for 5 liters of water
For tank water ph 6.3 to 6.8 use 1 ml for 5 liters of water

So i would suppose that anything above 6.8 CANNOT put mineral plus.

My theory is that, acid "eats" away at their shell.. regardless chitin shell or not.. so if ph is high than 6.8, the water is considered quite neutral.

i dunno if my theory is right... but i use this to explain to myself why not to be careless.

lol ph 6.8 and above still can use mineral plus.
dont scare away people who dont know.
shell acts as food for your shrimp your acid dont eat the shells your shrimps do.

Thanks, I am trying to lower my GH now. PH, temp and NO3 all under control.

hmm.. lol.. this is just based on what i read and what i have theorise. btw, the eating away part is not directed at the empty molted shells. I'm talking about the shells on their backs right now. The effect is not obvious now... but if they dun molt, i think u will be able to see the difference bah.

if ph 6.8 and above.. your advise will be to dose how much? =)

coz i did have this problem before when my ph was 7.2 and GH was 6 -7. Other water parameters was being checked by friend and outcome was that the only difference between "when they were ok" and "they were not" was the rise in GH and the outcome was the death of sakura. So, im just sharing my own conditions. =P maybe my tank gt problem with sakuras.. LOL!

btw... acidic conditions do deteriorates matter. It's just a matter of how long...

probably a ph of 6 will take 1000 years to reduce a metal rod to nothing whereas a ph of 1 will reduce the same rod in a matter of seconds.

Take snails for an example. since their outlook is more obvious.

The golden apple snails that i have, is slowly turning white. The shell is obviously being eaten away.. slowly, but obviously.

They are kept in the ph of 6.1 in another tank.

Shrimps, crayfish and snails protective shell are all made up of calcium. It just depends on what type.

JMHO HEE!
