Can a small fan really bring down temperature?

Hi

I have a small tank of shrimps. The temperature is between 30 and 31 degree C.

To buy a chiller is not worth it as the cheapest chiller itself (costing $300+)will be double the size of my small tank (about 1 foot sq).

I have been advised to buy a small fan and use it to cool my tank. As it is, my tank is placed on the bar counter of my living room, away from the sun. The living room is air-con only in the evening when the whole family is home.

Can a small fan really bring down the temperature? And by how many degrees?

Would appreciate your kind comments and advice here.

i would say it will cool down..mine would only go down to 26deg. for my sakura tank.

how small is ur small tank?

I am using a fan (those typical 4" by 4" ones) to cool my 2'x1'x1.5'..

it can bring the temperature down by 2degC, ie from 30 to 28, sometimes even to 27..so yes it helps..

it's more economical too (as compared to a chiller) for e size of tank i have..

one thing to take note of is the evaporation rate...

i would say it would reduce your tank water temperature to around 1-2 degress lower than ambient temperature. it would require more frequent water top ups, which might be a hassle for some people.

wad is ur tank size?

wad shrimp are u keeping?

where is the tank place in the house?

all this is factors if the temp will be brough down by alot or not much different..

I'm also using the fan. My tank is in my room. The temp is 26 -27deg. only thing evaporation. but just top it up.

using fan have to top up water everyday. and blowing at teh water surfing at an angle will be better than blowing it str8 on.

Another thing u can do is, put water in a bottle (those poka green tea will do) and freeze it hard.

Than place the froozen bottle into ur tank. But it only last until the water inside becomes water.

my ambient temperature is also abt 30 to 31C...
but using a 4" by 4" fan does put down the temperature to 28 - 29C which i think i jus nice for cherries...
but pls note tt not more fans=lower temperature, it jus gives more evaporation...
