Sharing my recent setup tank

Hi All,

I'm sharing one of my tank with only portion of tank with soil. This is to make it easier for me to decom the tank next time.

Just using a box instead of making a soil partition. When decom I will just need to take out the box.

Actually is it a must to put soil if i want to keep shrimp?

If i put sand do i need to change every 2 years?

If u r able to keep a stable low Ph or the requirement Ph for shrimp by using sand, why not.

I have some tanks using just a thin layer of soil. The only thing is I can't add any plant which need planting in soil so I only do with those plant on driftwood.

Guess i will follow your method use plant that is on driftwood.

1) So soil will alter the PH if so how will it affect? Will new soil bring the PH value Up or Down?
2) As the soil expire it will bring the PH Up true?
3) Hearsay if soil expire it will give out harmful substance what kind of harmful substance will it give out? This is very crticial for shrimp keeper can be like a overnight disaster
4) Normally how often do you change your soil?
5) How do you know that your soil need to be change? By looking at time or what kind of factor?

New Soil will buffer the Ph down

Soil expire will lose effect to hold Ph low, it depends on ur water for wc.

When I wan change the look of the tank. But I do have tanks that the soil is more than 2 years and shrimps is still breeding well in it.

if ur soil lose it's effect to buffer Ph. But if u know how to treat ur water to get the Ph u require then is not a must to change soil.

Is same as u ask abt using sand.
