if your luck is good, really need lucky, they may give out some odd ball. And I really say you really need luck, chance of mutation is really very low, hence you have to breed a lot, in 10 of thousand or perhaps 100 of thousand to have chance to get mutation.

well considering that I'm willing to stand for an hour picking out those "only red" ones at C328 and other shops for $1-$5 each I guess that would be the price I'm willing to pay for all red CRS

So how to decide the value of a shrimp? By phenotype or genotype Or both? By phenotype is very simple lah, no nice shrimp low price, nice shrimp high value. But come to genotype, it is a bit hard. Say for this case, we know the pair will come out 25% KK or PD. The current price of KK/PD at 0.6 to 0.8cm is at least $750. The female assume to have 20 eggs and will give birth to 5 KK/PD in first round. Maybe you will have 2nd, 3rd and even 4th round of babies.... Ok.... u do the rest of the maths. You call lousy looking shrimp exotic?? Last edited by silane; 27-05-2009 at 02:05 AM. |

But I can tell you I will not let go those "grade D" CRS even at price of a SSS, because their 25% of their offsprings will be wine red. I rather keep myself... months later will have lot of wine red shrimps as I have mix the genes of them. But I know those low grade in LFS will not have such genes, else, base on the number of what they breed and what they sold. Else Many hobbyists will have wine red shrimp.
