Cos i do breeding, sometime have to trf altos from holding tank to breeding tank or vis-a-vis. Even fries have to trf from small tank to bigger tank when they have out grown, my practise is always direct from tank to tank within the house. So far have not incur any casualty from the transfering. In fact, every now & then when i do rearrangement of any fish, i just trf them directly. So long your tank is mature & parameters not big diff, will not have any problems unless due to other reasons. I do acclimatization only on new fish that is highly sensitive to new environment

Moba is not that difficult to keep. The fronts are very hardy.

Trueblue dont be sad, its a process for you to master the hobby. I have countless of death and i think everyone here does, with every mistake you make you will advance 1 level up because you would have learnt and grow. Anyway putting the alto in a bag for 1hr is enough for them to be stress and die, please take note, even i put in a pail with water stone i still have casualties. Transfer is always tank to tank if you cant the worst is a pail with airstone, and it must be settle within 30mins.

As advise by gowling, moving on to fronts for tangan maybe good, but my suggestion is until you sure you are ready, try not to venture into too expensive species. Even i start alto like 6 mths after i started this hobby.

transfers have no definite method. in fact, using a pail or bag and acclimatizing them can also be a good thing. just that most hobbyist here, especially the more seasoned or experienced ones would already have a fixed routine and thus their tanks (eg: tanga tanks) are more or less the same parameters, thus the confidence to just transfer from tank to tank direct.
the point here is to learn and understand what is happening or has happened and adjust or change from there. not blindly follow. learn from their experiences and do what suits your routine best.
