If he is caught by the police/authority for shrimp catching, he will be placed in an ecosphere (jail) too

The price of hawaii red shrimps are higher than the regular shrimps we keep here in Singapore, has to do with productivity (low production compared to cherry or CRS), scarsity, etc, I suppose.

Update from my observation of berried female Hawaii Red Volcanic Shrimp.

Two days ago, late night, during my feedtime observation, I notice this female was stationary on a lava rock, and somewhat all her body expand (look bigger), i believe she was trying to dislodge her larvas shrimps.. only saw about 3 on her, out of the 8 earlier observed.

I managed to siphon out 2 larvas into the nursery tank.
2 days later, still searching around my 2ft tank for the remaining floating larvas, slim chance, 2 out of 8, still not bad for me.

During her dislodging process.. i do observe she sometime curl up and then do a 45-degree "hand-stand", perhaps this is the process of dislodging the babies.

Mar 2009 Updates

My Hawaii Red Shrimps Setup

NOTE: The berried female shrimp is less than 1cm in size, much smaller than CRS.

Now I got 27 adults, and about 15-20 shrimplets, probably population tripled or more by end of the year.. sooner or later I will shift my shrimps from 2ft tank to a larger tank, like bro Silane's setup.

After observing my shrimps, I believe I got 2 subspecies of this shrimps, the outdoor species and the cave species. The outdoor species had a clearly defined eyes, while the paler cave version seems to be "touch-n-feel" their way around. Both of them lookalike (other than skin colors and dark eyes spot), same size, same features.

I am struggling with the decision to separate them to discourage cross-breeding.

I had also read up an article on this issue, and its true that there are few pockets of isolate population in Hawaii which evolved in subterran volcanic caves with no access to sunlight.

Thank for sharing.

are you still removing the larva from main tank and out them back after they have developed into shrimp?
