I also having the same problem. I suspect my main problem came about by accidental introduction of the algae from some moss I added without checking. They spread all over the tank and now is really a big nuisance to remove. I have hair algae and staghorn. My lighting is mainly 36W PL on for about 7-8hrs. Very very tempted to put in some SAE, but is not sure about the safety of my CRS if I add them. Anyone has any experience with SAE in CRS tank?

just remember aglae is part of an eco system its natural but just unpleasing for the eyes. Try not to house SAE . You can try Otto old time proven safe or snails . They eat specific algaes only

Yes, that's my worry too. I already have two oto but they don't seem to get rid of the algae. Those in my tank are hair algae and staghorn, read somewhere that they may be hazardous to shrimplets as shrimplets may get entangled in them; not sure true or not. That's why would like to find an effective and safe way to get rid of them.

i have decided to redo my tank setup as i was advised that using used (more than 1 year) ada amazon soil may not be suitable for crs as it may not be able to control the ph well.

as such, i have went to buy 5.4kg of Azoo soil for shrimps. i will measure the ph tomorrow. as for lighting, i am thinking of getting t5 light or maybe a 36watt pl instead. alternatively i would on the 55watts pl for a much shorter hours.

i am still deciding what to put in the tank besides the moss ball as my bod wood tree tied with taiwan moss has vertical branches and the moss could not be grown there, only on the horizontal branches.
bro, why not u find out what's the cause by adjusting the existing situation before reset your tank ?
i'm just afraid your effort is wasted if problem persist.
personally i find that the light is too strong for a 211 tank, c02 maybe too much also, worst if there's just only a few plants. supply over demand.

hi, i have in fact redone my tank and at the same time facing another set of problem:

though i could not confirm what was my problem in my old setup, i strongly believe it is due to excess lighting.

extra light and c02 given to the algae liao.
infact no c02 for your tank also can. just a few plants only.........

Your algae is mainly contributed by excess nutrient causing water column unbalance.

If you talk to planted tank experts they will tell you first thing is to plant your tank densely, secondly keep your plants healthy; with these 2 criteria met then u can start grooming your water for your need. Lighting and CO2 is essential only if your plants are healthy. Otherwise u will see all kinds of unwelcome algae.
