how often do their dorsal have to be trimmed? what is the process like?
Glad u like them... Dorsal trimming is ONLY for more effective breeding purpose when u want the males to swim faster chasing the females.
This happens around 5-6 month old when their dorsal starts to drag their swimming. With other normal grades, don't even bother as there's nothing to trim.
Just hold them in 1 hand, using the thumb and index finger to 'close' their dorsal and trim it with a scissors using the other hand. No need medication etc.
Other than that, it's perfectly fine not to touch them allow their dorsal to grow to its full glory for aesthetic view.

Default Places to find @ LFS

I came across such specimen in Seaview @ Jalan Kayu and OTF @ Pasir Ris

They are priced between $12 TO $15 per piece and there's strain of short body form.

I must say that your collections are indeed impressive and of superior quality.

Of course, 一分钱一分货。
Those sold in lfs, overseas sell at 5-10rmb a piece.
I got mine $50sgd a pair. Some branded seller even sell up to $200sgd.

Sharing another of my overseas favoirite.
Enjoy!...
