Gex soil do contain abit very little as i using it in both of my tank 1ft and 2ft. So using Gex soil maybe u can try cycling with some hardy shrimp or use cheap fishes to kick start it. I use cherry and sakura to kick start it but for my 1st week i leave it empty add some shrimp 2nd week 3rd check rather safe to add more 4th nitrite went up after 4th week nitrite went down almost done 5th week ammonia 0 nitrite 0

Yea bro they are not very accurate one it nearly cause my tank to perish...... That time i try it say ph and ammonia etc in acceptable condition. So to double confirm i got those liquid type to test again OMG the ammonia is way higher than the strip result.
