considering there was a massive debate on spotteed vs florida here in af think last yr or the yr before..
conclusion - spotted gars are very rare, wad we see are florida. BTW... how u guys tell florida/spotted frm gator ar? Aligator gars generally have broader mouths... and the protruding teeth is more pronounced. Not to mention grow faster, and bigger too. I agree with schmike, the big eye shorter + broader snort gar more like gator den florida.. be prepared to have one hit a gd ft or so in less den a year. nah.. my ex gator gar. U compare to the one u juz got, can see difference? |

Nothing to do with stripes or patterns.
tat pic was taken at.. think 17"? or 20+"? can't recall. When he was small, looked SIMILAR to florida. really. i picked him from a tank of florida... and got at florida price. Muahahaha I've seen gators which looks very similar to florida when young. Seriously, dun bother looking at pattern. It dun work that way for most gars, unless we're talking cuban gar... TAT is beauty indescribable. the easiest way of telling gar spieces apart is the mouth.. length, width, teeth. Last edited by satan_gal; 12-02-2011 at 08:56 PM. |

Best to see from top view. Gator gar snout is broader.. really like alligator..
spotted gar is slimmer.. nice triangle shape.. spotted and florida gar difference i think is the scales if im not wrong..also the snout length is some ratio thingy i can't rmb.. i did some research in 2009 when i got my spotted gar.. i think is spotted. check it out when he was a teenager =] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IviEVU2Be8 now trained on MP, squid and whiting (aka swa chiam or pasir pasir) |

its a florida.
the main difference between a spotted n a florida is the girth and a bony plate at its jaw. length of snout is very similar with spotted just slightly longer. |

I think u r right!
Spotted gars have v distinct dark patches of spots whereas the florida ones are abit more "pixelated" and are smaller patches. |
