bro, no matter how we try , we can never ever simulate the natural environment of the ecosphere or ecosystem. what we are doing is to bring it as close as possible. Maintenance is definitely required but the question is how much or how little.
So in my own opinion, without maintenance, we can never or not even dream to have a makeshift ecosphere on its own.
