I think if they over-populate, it can be quite a nuisance. In the end I bought a few "killer" snails and they managed to control they population quite well.

Agreed, killer snails are very effective, but take note that they may also attack your shrimps if they happen to be sick. I dare not take the risk so I'm pulling them out manually still. Lols. Sickening.
