TS, no offence but im just curious, how do you know that its the soil thats causing you problem? Soil mainly just affects PH, hence, perhaps you would like to test your tap water for its PH value first? Cherries/Sakuras/FRs prefer neutral PH, i.e. PH 7.

If your water is tested to be in the higher range, say, 7.2 and above, you might consider using ph reducing soil such as ada amazonia or gex red packet to reduce it to PH 6.8 - 7

If your water is tested to be PH 7. You can use inert soil such as Dennerle quartz. black would be a good color to bring out the shrimps features.

Perhaps you would like to ensure your tank is fully cycled (test for nitrate), temperature or maybe the presence of rocks (if any) in your setup is causing high GH which results in the shrimps not being able to molt?

Hope you find my inputs useful. Good luck!

Thank you Bro, this is just in time for me, I just measured my shrimp tank ph, it was from 7.1, now went up to 7.9, I'm not sure was it recently added two pieces of rocks. I may need to add bogwood to reduce this ph.

I think it is the rock which cause ur ph to be so high.u can try to remove it
