5 gal. is approx 19L - too small for CRS. The smaller the tank, the more unstable the water conditions... And CRS need stable water conditions to do well

You may want to go for 10 gal. for a start. And make sure your water parameters are just right - temp., pH, ammonia, nitrates, nitrites etc.

Its not easy but once you get it right and they start reproducing, its very fulfilling
