But i normally use a small plastic bag over the sponge and then hold the opening of the plastic bag and move downwards to remove the sponge. I do it this way to prevent the dirt from floating away from the sponge. Use a bigger bag over the connection point to remove the whole filter tube There should be something better out there |

hi rainman thanks.... but my concern is how should i add the media into the filter since my filter is already running with live shrimps in it...
is there anyway that it wouldnt affect the water perimeter too much? or is it ok to just change the filter media like dat? |

I suggest you try to 'season' your new CRs or other new medias first, before replacing half of your matured sponges. You can do this by putting the medias separately in another filter to cycle with the tank water for a few weeks. Otherwise, there may not be enough good bacteria in the balanced matured sponges to cope with your tank lifestock requirement.
If you change to CRs / biohome, you should at least keep the fine sponge for your last stage. Just my opinion, hope it helps |
