Not too long ago, I warned a "friend" about potential problem of a type of soil. But he keep showing off he was using that soil even it was not proven for him just to prove he is good to use the soil that I said is bad to my humble experience on the soil. Then one day, he switched soil, the reason is his shrimplets disappeared one by one.

Actually, CRS can stay in wide range of pH, as long as the pH is within the reason and does not up and down quickly, it is fine. There are different school of thoughts to keep CRS, some can be the extreme end of the pH.

In my own experience, i can vouch that when using my gex red soil, my crs berries.. but there are no shrimplets. NONE at all. they never seem to survive. I am not sure.

hmmm wonder who can help. LOL...
Hehe what you read may not be correct you have to try out... I had use ADA from the 1st day I keep CRS that is 5 year back to now i am keeping RW and ADA still work for me. To key for using ADA is to cycle the tank well. i cycle it for 3 mth no short cut with well equip tank.

Using the Red gex soil and have some shrimplets survival.
However somehow its PH seems to keep going up recently.
For people who use them how long do they last?

Not sure about Azoo but for sure it wont break down as fast as I have
compared the texture before and it does not crumble easily.

ADA breaks down quite rapidly if you rescape often.

so are we right to say that ADA soil is the "most suitable" soil for crs? the main issue is properly cycling of the tank as ada soil contains lots of ammonia.

which type of ada? africana or amazonia?

... wah.. this thread so long ago de..

I tested both le..

My verdict is ADA wins hands down.

Last time i asked one of the shifu here, he told me he using africana, but coz he due to change soil, he told me he will change to amazonia.. he never tell me the reason why...

GEX soil, i find the ph never stable.. the swing is very big.. for me la... i know others who swear by GEX soil.

used ADA 1 , ADA 2 , GEX , all seem fine , as long as yr water is stable and cycled properly is ok , all shrimps are fine , all healthy and breeding , shrimplets survival is good ...
