I using one external 3800L/h china made pump to run the chiller.

Base on my RR 0.5hp chiller setup. If you are placing the pump before the chiller, the flow rate will drops by almost 50% before it returns to the main tank. So my flow rate back to the tank is only 1900L/h. Factor that is affecting my return flowrate - bigger chiller capacity, long return pipe.

china made pumps are not true rated... nornally need to divide by 2 Maybe that explains why....

Reference to the Daeil or Artica chiller, the recommended flowrate for HP are:

1/10 HP = Min 900L/H Max 3600L/H
1/5 HP = Min 1800 L/H Max 5000L/H
1/4 HP = Min 1800 L/H Max 7000L/H
1/3 HP = Min 1800 L/H Max 9000L/H

Believe that these are good for other chillers too.

So what is your plan? Are you planning to decommission your OHF?

If Yes, get a canister with multi-tier tray canister to separate your different media. it will help a lot for your future up-keeping ie canister are Ehiem 2026/2028 (New...2xx??) )or low end Jebo or Jebao 809/819 (I am using Jebao,$7x). Get the largest canister that you can afford...

If you are keeping your OHF, then you can consider to get a smaller and low-end canister like Jebao 808($4x) ,or something...no need to use other media just wools to filter dirt to drive your Chiller..need and tidy...

Cheers!
