Believe it or not, it happened once to my customer. He uses a 1HP chiller on his 6'X2'X2', and one fine day, the temp. sensor decided to take leave - Result - compressor didn't cut off, adn temp. dropped to 12C before he realized it!!! All corals shrunk up, fish were all shivering and hiding in the LR. End of day, lost a couple of corals and quite a no. of the fish got Ich. Quote:

wow ok... hehe.. scary.. what my dad does is juz on in it the day and at nite turn it off.. save electricity.. advisable?

Your dad doesn't have to do that. All real chillers come with a sensor that detects the temp. Once it reaches that temp., it cuts off the compressor, until the temp. rises again. So at nite, when it's cool, the compressor should be off most of the time. Quote:
