ammonia & co are pretty much toxic to fishes..if you alr know this & are simply keeping channa this way because it's your "style", it doesn't really seem like very responsible fish keeping to me. but that's really none of my buisness. however i really don't feel you should be encouraging others to follow this; it's one thing to keep your own fishes in toxic waters, but another completely to encourage others to do the same.

that is true, IF you are mantaining your water, but i must ask, how are you doing this without a filtration system? i think you may be mixing up water cleanliness & water clarity. just because water is clear (mechanically-for lack of better words, can see through very easily-), it doesn't mean it is clean (free from ammonia & co). a tank that does not run a filtration system can easily be clear as the debris will simply collect on the bottom of the tank, however there is no way the ammonia, nitrite & nitrate will get rid of themselves. while i do agree that it is alright to have poorly areated water for channa, ammonia & co is definately ill advised at high concentrations (i know there is an arguement that snakeheads thrive in waters that are usually toxic-but i feel some measure of center ground should be taken).
