Default Shrimp Set Up Queries

Hi all

Would like to consult some opinion before getting started

I am intending to set up a 1ft tank for shrimp

Substrate : Black Dennerle Sand (Inert)
LiveStock : 5 - 10 Fire Red Shrimps
Plants : Hornwort / Java Moss
Filtration : Dolphin HOF A2000 ( Flowrate 200L/H )

Kindly advise if the above set up will work ? I intend to set up a simple shrimp tank on my study table

If yes, Will the above set up still work if i use Sponge Filter ONLY instead of HOF ?

Many Many Thanks

Possible to use spong filter only if bio load is not so high. And Fire Red aka Sakura is quite hardy shrimp.

Perhaps adding frogbit, also add Bio-Ring in your HOF, do remember to use wire mess type for the inlet of the HOF or Stocking, as the shrimplets will be suck in to the HOF when the reproduction starts.

Try not to use a sponge filter in such a small tank. It takes up so much space, very unsightly! If you want aeration.. just use an airstone. Your HOF should be more than enough

Usually when you buy a HOF they will come with their own filtration kit, I tend to change them with my own. Most will come with active carbon that's not entirely necessary, you can replace them with more ceramic rings for additional bio filtration.

In my 1ft Hastatus tank, I had 4 shrimplets that I couldn't spot when transfering shrimps over to another tank (yes they were that small). That was 2 months ago, now I have the 4 (that are now adults) and 30+ shrimplets. The female is berried for a third time... So they will breed very.. very fast! Hehe..

Thanks much for the affirmation. I will set up tank soon

Maybe shrimp keeping is not that difficult afterall ~!

Also, i choose to use 200L/H HOF because i am intending to put Seachem Matrix filter media. At 200L/H, it will be able to have de-nitrator function

I started an office 1.5 feet tank (established with lots of algae growing) during CNY with 14 cherry shrimps.

Now can see a lot of shrimplets already (3 weeks only).

Have fun!
