2 weeks too soon to say. I've kept mine for more than 6 months in a fan-cooled environment and still not confident. However, I have noticed that mortality of the shrimplets were not so good... only the lousier grades survived. In addition, my berried shrimps have about 15 shrimplets each only. I have heard from others that this is quite a low yield.

My problem was that it was a 10" tank and when it got infested with algae, I did daily wc... much to the detriment of my CRS. In less than 2 weeks, all wiped out. All it needs is just one bad wc to tip the scales in a small tank.

Money aside. I feel it's good to start with the average shrimps, and upgrade progressively. This way, you get more excitement when you get higher grade offspring later. Trust me, e feeling is different from starting off with higher grades immediately.

I started with Grade B (or A) and when I had my first pregnant shrimp, I was excited and looking forward to seeing the shrimplets. Now, after 1+yr, seeing Hino shrimplets doesn't give me the same excitement as I had when I had my first batch of Hino shrimplets.

There's no wrongs about gg high grade immediately. It's just the progression that people miss out.

Upgrade e tank size if you can. 10" tank is courting disaster. Not that small tanks are bound to fail, but it's just so much more difficult to handle. Not that I don't take up the challenge, but I just felt bad when shrimps in my hand are not managed properly. It's a life afterall.

I have a small tank. I did quite a bit to stablized it. I thought the tank is stable. I have shrimps, I had a few generations of shrimplets too (in this tank). Casualty rate seems low (don't notice any dead shrimps for sometime now), water appears normal. Shrimps are more sensitive than Ottos. BUT, I tried putting in Otto, I tried putting in Snails... they can't cope in the tank, but shrimps are still able to multiply. Why? I give up, I won't put in otto and snails anymore.

Thus, for your tank, I suggest you don't continue with this tank. Upgrade it, start all over again.

Yup... my crs tank is now 1.5 ft. I cannot go larger than that unless I get new racks etc. I'm keeping my fingers crossed here.

The 10" tanks are now used for RCS... I have 3 of them with RCS and they have been breeding for about 2 yrs already. The bumblebee and ramshorn snails in them are doing ok as well. In fact, I started with just one orange ramshorn 2 yrs back and have more than a hundred now (not in the same tank of course).

I have another 2 of these tanks for guppies. These have ottos which are doing ok. Ottos are more sensitive than most shrimps... I believe that they are signals when the nitrate levels goes high... something like the rummy nose... only diff is that they die instead of losing color.
