too much co2 will causes death not only in crs but in fishes too.
its best you guys buy a drop checker and a kH test kit to measure your co2 ppm to ensure you have a safe co2 amount in your tank, so no deaths of your precious crs will happen =)

Unhappy

Okay. Here is the result. I just finished doing W.C. Before I do water change, I test the PH level in my tank. It's read 5.3.(Note that the tap water is ph 6.8) So I do a 30% W.C and then test again. This time, it read 5.7. Not very satisfied with the result, I do another 40% W.C and pump in more air plus tied a pkt of coral chips inside the tank. Also I disconnect my CO2. I test again and this time is 6.2 but just test again it become 5.9. So so angry and frustrated.. . . I have not bought the KH kit yet and so unable to perform a check

Even if i bought the KH kit and tested, how should I rectify the situation if is low or high in reading? No strength to change water liao.

This morning change water again. this time is 20% but result in the end is almost the same. I have put coral chips inside my cannister filter last night.
Maybe will buy a bottle of alkaline buffer to raise the PH.

It is sodium bicarbonate based buffer, overtime still causes you problem.
Using undergravel filter with baked soil usually brings down pH drastically the initial weeks after setup. People using UGF system in Taiwan normally totally "overturn" the crs tank and re-sand again every 9-12 month and I think this will be a nightmare to me so I stopped using UGF and changed to external canister.

IMO, shrimps require consistent environment and thrive even temperature and water parameters are too much away; the key is CONSISTENCE. Only upon the time of breeding then they need the "original desired" environment. I don't recommend change too much water and chemically alter your water. How you setup your UGF? simply air pump or with cannister?

The setup is a month liao. For the last 3 weeks, everything seem okay. Inside my Cannister consists of 1st layer (on top) is wools followed by rocks, black carbon plus coral chips (Mixed together 2nd layer), then ceremic rings (3rd layer) and lastly biohome (4th layer).

One bro here ask me to go buy test kit for KH and KH+. He say dun change water. just put half or 1 teaspoon of KH+ in a cup of water. Mixed together and slowly pour into the tank. Monitor if the PH rise, then slowly increase. then if get KH3, he will teach me how to polish water. I really very keen to learn from him.
