Sorry...off topic a little, did u know keeping a fish tank in this case shrimp tank in the bedroom is very bad feng shui......

Er... just curious.. is there internal filter that runs on the surface of the water? If you are saying that you are going to place the filter nearer to the surface, my suggestion is, use HOF. Reason being, internal filter tends to increase the temp of the water regardless of the position you put. Its the motor of the filter that cause the heat. For shrimp keeping, I will still recommend Hang on Filter(min)

You may want to add more plants such as moss into your tank. Cause shrimp just love dense vegetation.
