PH Level for Crystal Red Shrimps
Recently encountered problem such as PH Level in tank keep lowering (from PH 6.2 to 5.6) despite changing of 1/4 of water and put PH up solution. After changing of water, the PH level back to 6.4. After a few days, it will decrease and decrease till 5.7. So far saw 4 casualties crystal red while other shrimps and fish all remained okay.
What could be the cause and how to maintain stability of PH level? Suspect is the media in the cannister. Black carbon with rocks, Biohome, ceremic rings and wools. |

If it is newly setup your tank is not ready for any shrimps. Need change more water few times until pH stable around 6.8 before introducing shrimps, meanwhile suggest place some coral chip into the canister once pH starts go up then gradually take out small portion bit-by-bit and monitor closely.

When doing water change, I pass tap water slowly thru carbon block water filters into a small container about 10L; then add few drops Prime and stir up for a minute and I can smell chlorine sometimes. Tap water pH shall around 7.2 and TDS about 55 in my area, I don't adjust pH because I know that the water is very soft. My only concern is diff of temperature (6C) when add into the tank, slowly cup by cup adding takes 5 mins for 10L water. |

Don't use pH down... As far as I know it is diluted sulphuric acid either in power or liquid form. Even Seachem Acid Buffer powder also caused me big lost
