redcross Found 2 types of Most horrible pest in my tank- need help..

Recently...I notice a major loss of shrimplets...so decided to focus my eyes to check it out. This is what I found which leads to posting this thread at 6.06am.

1st was the horrible Nymph. Dunno from what kinda flies....but luckily they were small. Size like a new born shrimplets with 2 fiddles front & back (sorry...no pix...too small to take) Has seek advise from silane..and was told that small nymph are still quite harmless to the shrimps. I have not been adding plants or driftwood since I set up this tank...wondering how they came into my tank???

2nd was the eye straining Hydra...wondering where the hack they came from??? How harmful are they??? Will The sting kill the shrimps???

Currently, all my shrimps has been move to breeding box...all driftwood and moss have also been removed. Have clear about 10~15 nymph and hopefully there is anymore. Will do a check again before releasing the shrimps back. Is there any fish that eats them up?

As for the hydra...can anyone advise me how to remove them totally and how to prevent them in my tank. Any medication that is harmless to the shrimps??? And how they came into my tank???

Should I pour some boiling water to the driftwood before putting back into the tank???

1) As for nymphs, you will have to manually net it out. Take out those stuffs which provides hiding places to check. This includes driftwood etc.

2) For hydra. See the below article

"Killing Planaria & Hydra with Fenbendazole

The use of the chemical Fenbendazole has of course been known for a while with various animals. Until recently not much was known about its use with Freshwater Aquarium Shrimp. The thread "Planaria, Hydra and Fenbendazole" in the Planet Inverts Forum is what inspired this article and most information about using Fenbendazole was derived from the various users whom posted in that thread. It has been reported that Fenbendazole can be difficult to dissolve in water and that is may also cause a slight drop in pH. It is important that you do not overdose Fenbendazole as this could cause potential problems. Below you will find successful experience with hobbyist's and their shrimp tanks."

Have seen quite alot of successful tries. But then, i myself didnt try this before. If you would like to try using this method. Maybe move your shrimps to other tank first? It's quite tedious though.

As for me, i am manually removing them from my tank using a airtube to suck them out. It wont be 100% removal i think, but i definitely want the amount of hydra to decrease

bro. i still believe in not using chemical for removing the pest. its better to manually remove the nymphs. i believe that some "whatever-flies" might have laid eggs in your tanks when no one around. after you cleared the nymphs, i think its better for you to get a netting to cover your tank top to prevent future "egg laying incident". for those hydra, catching them is eye straining. i used to remove all my shrimps and add a hungry dwarf puffer in. after 1 or 2 days, the numbers of hydra decrease alot.

Many found their shrimps to have side effect with Fenbendazole. Strangely, all "documented" are sucessful stories and not those failed.

Bro newlife 2 small one? Bro cannot be be prepare to net at least it not going to be just 2. From my currently nymph catching experience do expect at least 20 pcs and above.

Best to be safe remove your existing plant,dw etc.Than leave 1 mesh as trap cause they like to hide around planted things to catch those little <-- i don't their name. Confirm u can clear them in no time bro (but a lot of hard work cause u must literally camp infront of your tank.

That is how i clear my 1st tank.

Now trying to clear my 2ft also kana. The 1st time i spotted one i know die liao i unroot all my plants 1 by 1 to catch than meshes by meshes.

Bro if u want to know what i did open msg my nos liao can call me anytime.

Gd luck hunting them down.

I heard many failed stories of using Fenbendazole, their shrimps start to die after the pest are gone. Strangely, only "sucessful" stories are reported but not the failed ones.
