oh, so i think i better change tank for the fahaka next time.

Sad to say, my fahaka die on my. i bought it home this morning and in the late afternoon i just sleep on the tank floor....that small guy really sick when i get him, all black and fin torn and alot of white spot on him...though i can cure him...

going to read more on the pufferforum before i buy any more puffer. any advise for what puffer for a 3ft tank? i like those more active one like fahaka..

is it now the puffer season???? i saw alot of special puffer around.

i also saw the palembangs, yes 8SGD each, but i dont like it as it is really stone....not moving at all even if i drop the air stone on it......lightly....

Dear beginner.. one puffer would be more than enough for u... even more so for fahaka. Be contented and enjoy the fish!
3ft is not enough for a full grown....and urs will not become a full grown in a 3ft

Hope very soon u will also appreciate the beauty of palembang puffer.

that's the way! Read more in TPF.. u & ur pet puffer will benefit from it!

actually, there are quite a few puffers that can live comfortably in a well cycled/maintained 3ft.. however, not many are imported to ur small puffer market.

thought of doing up a brackish 3ft? If yes, I strongly recommend u to get that figure 8 puffer. Affordable price, commonly available, active, easy to care for and very attractive color. Furthermore, u can keep more than 1 in ur 3ft.

anyway have anyone seen any red eye puffer for sale before? i think the size is just rite for me as i'm unable to get a bigger tank for them

Sick puffers are always a problem thats why you should buy puffers the moment they hit the stores..once you delay den odds are the puff is either gonna be really black or full of ich.

Just curious, what meds did you use on him?

Fahakas are not really active puffers, maybe when they are young they tend to swim ard abit but once older they wld be more like bottom dwellers or spend some time hiding in the sand...more active ones would be like gsp or dwarfs..

now i have a few choose i can take. but i would like to seek some advise from the bro here

Tank Size = 3ft

1)DP-very small and cute, can keep quite alot in my 3ft tank but the problem is that they are really too small to be seen in a 3ft tank. and i dont know to make it into a planted tank for the DP or a moss tank for the DP. And will they come to the glass to beg for food like other puffer?

2)SAP-can keep in a group. But they have teeth problem. and the tank setting is also a planted tank? or using some fine sand for the tank base and some cave will do?

3)Fig 8-very nice, but the problem is the water. i never try to prepare the salt water before. with the SG of 1.005-1.008??? i dont really know what is that...and i cannot grow plant inside? or only cave ?

Really dont know which one suit me better??? or other bro have other better choose of puffer for me? please advise. Thanks

All puffers will beg for food if you show them the proper attention and all puffers have teeth problems. Based on my experience, Fahakas show the most 'love' to their owner when you shower dem with lots of care, a very emotional fish. As in, sit beside e tank beside dem, feed em often, 'pat' them and especially make their tank environment comfortable..They will get all excited when you walk towards the tank but the moment you stop doing that, they will literally ignore you and rather face the wall den face your side

If you intend to keep Fig 8s, you have to keep their teeth in check too. Mixing brackish water isnt that difficult, you just need to buy a hydrometer to make sure the water is in the right condition. You can find tons of information on mixing brackish water online esp in TPF. Hydrometers are cheap like 10 dollars for a simple one. As for plants, there are many species that can withstand a brackish environment. Be careful not to overload ur tank with Fig8s though,,a 3 ft probably can keep about 4-5 max depending on how strong ur filtration is going to to be. GSPs can also grow to a huge size if given proper care..about 4-5 inches

DP - imo a little too small for 3ft tank.. However, if u are doing up a nice planted setup, then go for this cute tiny puffer.

SAP - extremely beautiful.. but not very common. Have some patience.. puffer season shd be on its way. A handful..perhaps 5 would be nice in a 3ft semi-planted.

Figure 8 - another beauty. Brackish setup isn't too difficult if u are well-versed in freshwater management. As mentioned by bro shagy382, tonnes of info available online. Partly due to the popularity in angmoh countries..maybe also becos they don't have much variety to choose from.

I remembered recently few weeks back, there is this bronze puffer - Auriglobus Modestus in our LFS. Can consider this also if u like active puffer.

mine rather face the wall then greet me when I come back from ICT.. but very easy to get it back into a happy fahaka.. Give it nice delicious food. Live crayfish.. apple snail.. ghost shrimp.. let it eat until song song..then next day it will greet u again.

Yea bro this particular fish must bribe him to make him happy..but fahakas only begin showing 'emotions' when they get bigger. Small still dont know anything lol

Everytime my fahaka unhappy, my wallet becomes a little bit lighter cannot imagine next time when my 3 fahakas become unhappy lol

Sorry bro dont mean to imply anything but its questionable that your Fahaka died the moment you brought him home. Just want to learn more about puffers

-What meds did you use to treat the ich/torn fin bro? Whats the layout of your tank like? (Aeration, decor, cycled,pH, tankmates).

- Did you feed him anything?

-Was he swimming ard when you bought him at the LFS? or your house?

- Did he look bloated when he died?

Den again, it could be on the brink of death and the stress from transporting him from the LFS to your house might have killed him.
