Default My 1st FW Crayfish!

Juz started on my very 1st FW crayfish hobby. Tried those CPOs before and put them into a tank with fishes, Gudgeons. Guessed they're history after that All started with claws missing and soon dun even have the carcasses.

After seeing these beautiful cambarus ludovicianus, I decided to create a small tank juz for them. Totally not running on any power, juz water, pebbles, a log with 3 small grass, a ball of java moss, small rocks, some mini guppies and a few Cherry Shrimps sitting at the kitchen window.

Partial water change with Doctor Aqua's "Rid Double-C" every 2-3 days at the moment. I'm in the process of pushing the tank bio-system to a week before changing water. Guess this is not possible yet as the tank is newly set up.

For a start, here are some pics to share.

take your shrimps out straightaway. if your crayfish catches and eats your shrimp, it may die of a disease/bacteria on the shrimp that is fatal to your crayfish.

Do it asap. You wouldn't want that expensive lil thing to die right? =)

Not really worried about the crayfish eating your shrimps and getting disease but your overall tank..

First, I don;t think the picture you showed the shrimps are cherry shrimps, they are crystal red shrimp, I think should be Grade B, way more expensive than cherry. And crystal red shrimp thrive best in pH 6.5-7 at cooler temperature, though some can survive at normal shrimp parameters.

Just want to inform you about these informations. =D

i think your set up is really wrong.

Firstly, there is not filter. Without a filter, and such a high bioload, your animals will die from ammonia poisoning!

Secondly, the shrimps you bought, CRS, need low temperature below 25 degrees. without a chiller, it is extremely hard for them to survive.

Thirdly, with such a small tank without a lot of plants or hiding places, your shrimps will be stressed out by the endlers, which will chase them continuously.

Lastly, the mini lobster may attempt to catch the shrimps (which will stress them out even more) or the fish.

Hi, thanks for your advice and highlights. As mentioned, I purposely leave out all the electrical equipments for a start and see how I can build up a self-contained bio-system. Of cse in return, frequent water change will be needed but I feel it's easy to do as the tank is small.
As for the CRS and fishes, they're so far doing ok. Will try to post updates regularly to see how long a nano tank of such set up can last.
