Mind showing a FTS? Nice Tylo snails! Always wanted some, but no setup for them.

Thanks! Well, the snails are pretty easy to keep as long as the conditions are stable for them. Here are more pictures for you, which includes a FTS as requested
more photos to share: fighting for food! you can probably see the white spot tylomenia snail here. Malili Red Bee (especially for fans of fire red) Yellow Striped Red Bee Another Red cardinal *insert lion king song here* FTS I added hornworts into the tank over the weekend, but the tylo snails sniffed it and headed towards that direction. I woke up this morning to find half of the hornworts floating around . I think I will give up putting in any other plants, and if any would be just nanas on driftwood. They are ripping my mini riccia on lava rock also. |

try to let the hornwort floats, that will be pretty out of reach for the snails.. they will also go for the frogbits also.. but will not touch nana and moss...

Just saw this. Well, I have seen spots on the nanas that the tylos have gone for and I say they did an impressive job on them (those darn snails! ). As for the moss, they usually go for the "leafier" parts and leave the stem alone. You will be surprised at the things they chow down on. I suppose I will just take the hornworts out and let them float.

Rooted plants your tylo will bulldozed over it. I have hair grass planted 1 day after i release than next day all the hair grass floating.
I think sulwesi tank can leave it bare with rocks.. If you really want you can soak a bunch of ketapang for a few times. I soak in boiling water still room temp. Change water soak again Change water soak again Until i don't see the water turning yellowish nor brown than i dump in. |

If you are interested, here are the parameters:
NO3: 0 (measured on Sera strip test) NO2: 0 (measured on Sera strip test) pH: 7.6 - 8 gH: 6-10 kH: 6 (measured on Sera strip test) All others are measured on Sera test kits. I would say the pH is the most inconsistent as it would usually fluctuate +- 0.2-0.3 over the course of the week. Relatively safe, but could be better controlled I guess. 1.5 feet tank Filter: Eheim Ecco Pro 2032 Media used: Eheim substrate pro (500g) + Seachem Purigen (~ 50g? just poured an estimated amount and left it in a filter sock together with the Eheim substrate) Coral sand Coral chips (placed in an underground filter compartment which also supports and distribute the weight of the rocks) Had a couple casualties over the past few weeks: 1x orange poso tylo, 1x yellow spotted tylo 2x cardinas Otherwise, the rest are doing relatively ok. I have seen 3 baby tylos and one shrimplet, which is a good sign. |

Just a quick update.
The shrimps aren't doing well. Not too sure why either. It might be a TDS issue (I don't have a measurement for this so I can't entirely blame it), or temperature (the tank is in my room which has aircon for 6 hours, so the temperature can drop pass the optimum living conditions). The shrimplet that I found in my tank has grown to adult size and looks like a malawi red but it's more orange than red (will take a picture and show) so I am not too sure how this works out. On a better note, the snails are doing really well. I have counted 7 small ones in the tank ever since I commissioned it. Not too sure the type yet as some of them are still developing and it's hard for me to be specific here. I don't have access rights to the buy/sell section (hint to the moderator ) but I would love to get my hands on a black with white spot, and a black with yellow spot tylomenia snail. If any body has a couple to sell, please let me know. |
