Water Parameter in my less than 1 week tank
Hi all, hope you guys can advise me a newbie am I on the right track base on my water parameter and the setup I am on? Tank will be for CRS.
Water Parameter GH - 30ppm Kh - 0ppm pH - 6.5 NO2 - 0 NO3 - 0 Tank Setup Tank size is 40cm by 32cm by 25cm (How many ft tank this size actually is?) Eden 501 ADA AquaSoil II and Mosura old sea mud powder as the base 1 x Dymax Robot LED Light 1 piece of driftwood with moss, 1 piece of moss on wire mess and an algae moss. No shrimps in tank yet. Cycling of tank started on 18 Jul and test is done on 23 Jul using API 5 in 1 test strips. Have also bought a bottle of Mosura Mineral Plus, when should I add into the tank? |

You should test the NH3 & NH4 since it's a new tank where there's no active bacteria doing the job.

You can add your mineral plus already, should bump your GH to a 5-6 range which is a good level for CRS.
However one thing is that those 5 in 1 test strips are not accurate compared to those which comes in test kits |

Some bros here don't add in anti-chlorine in aged water but I do because I feel it's better to be safe than sorry. It's up to individuals to see what works for them. You probably can start adding during your next water change. |

Ok will upgrade to the test kit. Looking at getting the API Freshwater Master Test Kit since it is the most comprehensive. Saw a set selling for around $58 or $60 at Rainbow, is that the cheapest I can find in LFS?

Only need to test until my cycling of tank is over right? Or do I need to check periodically after cycling is over? |

Yup get your gH up otherwise your shrimps wont be able to moult properly. You should do your mixing of mosura mineral plus in the pail of water that you are going to add into the tank, so if your gH overshoots if you pour too much then easier to salvage by adding more water.
Like Wjustin said, add in some bacteria too to start breaking down the ammonia that ada soil comes with. |
