Emergency:shrimps are frantic now!!!sos sos sos
I bought 10 pieces of green shrimps,(not the green cherry ones)last evening. i acclimatised them to my tank over 2 hours(which is my usual practise)... however, upon introduction into the tank, the shrimps started swimming frantically and curiously, their greenish colour took on a red-orangey hue @ the upper half of their bodies.
I expected to see them dead this morning, but they weren't... still swimming frantically as ever.(By the way, 5 of them are berried!!!) What's wrong? My other shrimps are fine, (10bds,6sakuras,12crs and 80odd sakura shrimplets) Please help!! thanks! |

How to help when you don't give details like tank setup and water parameters? How exactly was the acclimitisation done?

-started 2 weeks b4 chinese new year. -1 half ft by 1ft tank -cycled water for 2 weeks b4 introducing 15 sakuras(3 were berried) n 10 grade C crs. -one half coconut shell covered w java moss, a piece of wood tied w the same and one other luscious green plant tied to a piece of wood.(all growing marvellously)...added fert only twice, during the 1st 2 weeks, hv since stopped. -back panel of tank fitted w foam rock wall wh is currently covered w a thin layer of algae. -half a panel of one side of the glass is also covered w algae.(am keeping other panels free so that i can observe my pets!) -1 half inch of black quartz gravel -eheim liberty overhang filter w sponge fitted plus ceramic rings inside it to cultivate bacteria. -fan 24/7, temp ranges betw 24 & 26 degrees -feeding CrustaGran, every other day, bout 8 2mm pieces. i fish out all excess food after 2 hours so as not to pollute the water. -10% water change(aged n anti chlorined) every 5 days n water top up every day due to evaporation. since then, population has changed to... 10 bds, 6 sakuras, 12 crs and 80odd sakura shrimplets. newest tank mate, the 10 green shrimps. acclimatisation procedure: - place shrimps in original bag into my tank for bout an hour to get them used to temp of my tank. - them put all contents into a small tub, and add bout 20% of water from my tank into the tub. - continue to add the same amount after every half hour(a total of 4times) - them introduce shrimps into my tank. |

So the shrimps are reacting thus because the water in Shrimpbait's tank is too good or too poor in quality? Cheers |

1st of all your tank is getting overpopulated. Don't think your biofiltration is enough. Ceramic rings have its limitations.
2ndly, did you measure things like pH? Both of your tank and the pH of the water in the bag at least? What's the parameters now? Any ammonia spike? Increase aeration by addng an airstone for a start. |

Difference in parameters of the water that the shrimps are used to and the water in the tank. Both can be of good quality.
