I would say chiller. It can maintain the temperature you set. A fan depends very much on the environment room temperature. With a fan setup, you need to top up the water in the tank frequently because of higher evaporation rate.

wouldn't recommand it.
if a chiller is used as a filter, all tt gunk we get from our canister is going into the chiller which will be impossible to clean. then ur chiller will be cooling gunk and the chiller will spoil faster. an external canister filter will set you back about 60 bucks. |

definitely no. Chiller does not have the functions of a filter. Without at least of layer of filtering before the water gets into the chiller not only will clog the chiller, but U might have to flush ur chiller often. This can b very disruptive

if you want to keep high grade CRS with long term hobby recommend to use a chiller or you just want to try out keeping low grade crs think fan will be good enough.

aircon room! and you get to enjoy your shrimps without breaking a sweat! but seriously, a chiller is probably better in terms of keeping water temp more constant than the use of fans. not to mention, less water evaporation. Cons would be higher electricity bill and heat generated from the chiller. end of the day, it all depends on the ambient temp of where you keep your shrimps.
btw, this question has already been beaten to death.. |

For long term, definitely chiller. Even other shrimps like cherry, does better at slightly lower temperature (eg 26-28 degrees), thus a chiller is not just for CRS.
A canister is necessary, not just to filter away dirt, but also provide flow. Without flow, how does the chiller chill the tank's water? Lastly, before you ask more questions, there is a "Articles and FAQ" sticky right at the top of the sub-forum where 80% of shrimp hobbyist queries would be collated there. |
