Default New canister filter

I'm thinking of changing my old HOF to a new canister filter in my matured shrimp tank. Will that wipe out all the BB and kill my shrimps? I can transfer the Biohome plus from the HOF to the new canister. Hoping to get some advice here. thanks

Just an opinion. Here's what I did last time.

Soak some new filter media (biohome+ etc) in the tank for a couple of days for baterial to colonize in the media. Use these media in e HOF and e old media in e canister, as a transition. After canister is running for about a week, you can stop using e HOF.

Before using the canister, wash it clean than fill it with tank's water, and existing filter media.

Another way is to run newly canister and HOF together for some time, maybe 2 weeks before remove the HOF.

I have done it in the past, everything worked fine. No transfer of old materials.

the safest way is to run the 2 at the same time for a around a week or 2.. so that the bb will still survive.. after that transfer the used media into the new canister.. and let the run..
